DC Ranks 32 out of 52 for Pedestrian Safety | DC Metro Area Personal Injury Law Blog

5 stars

There have been some tragic cases where pedestrians lose their lives in D.C. lately.  The question we all ask is how safe it is to walk in our city?   Unfortunately, the answer is not so safe when compared to other major metropolitan areas across the country. In a study recently published by Transportation for America, the DC metro area was ranked 32 out of 52 in terms of safety for walkers.

In 2008, the DC Department of Transportation announced a five-year plan to improve pedestrian safety, specifically targeting 61 “high hazard” traffic intersections.  The plan including adjusting the timing of traffic signals and make markings on the crosswalks clearer. According to the Washington Post, the 30 intersections were ranked as the most dangerous for pedestrians from 2004 to 2006.

At Regan Zambri & Long, we have significant experience representing families who have lost loved ones and individuals who have been permanently injured in DC and the surrounding area in pedestrian cases, including cases involving Metro and other major companies.
