The following are some of Mr. Regan's recent settlements and verdicts:

  • A $14 Million confidential settlement in a significant defective product personal injury case. This represents one of the largest cash settlements in the District of Columbia.
  • A verdict of $4.7 Million in a medical malpractice case that was tried in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. This verdict, which was paid in full, was one of the largest medical malpractice verdicts in recent years in the District of Columbia.
  • A verdict of $6.2 Million for a skier who suffered a traumatic brain injury in an accident at the Massanutten Ski Resort in Virginia. This case was tried to a jury in Charlottesville, Virginia and resulted in the largest verdict ever rendered in Albemarle County, Virginia. The verdict was ultimately upheld by the Virginia Supreme Court and with interest the plaintiff collected nearly $7.0 Million. This was also the largest verdict against a ski operator that has been upheld in the country.
  • A $6.0 Million verdict in a high-speed police pursuit which resulted in the deaths of two innocent bystanders. This case represents one of the largest verdicts in the nation in a high-speed pursuit case.
  • A verdict of more than $4.1 Million for several U.S. Army soldiers who were injured when a Greyhound bus crashed in North Carolina. This case was tried in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia and was paid in full.
  • A $5 Million premises liability verdict on behalf of a ten-year old child who fell off of a high diving board and sustained a traumatic brain injury.
  • A $4.0 Million settlement in a wrongful death case resulting from the death of a construction foreman who was struck and killed by a tractor trailer truck that did not have an operable backup alarm. This was one of the largest wrongful death settlements in Virginia.
  • A settlement of $3.5 Million in a medical malpractice case on behalf of the family of a 37 year old Maryland man who died as a result of negligent and careless conduct by doctors and hospitals. He was survived by his wife and three young children.
  • A $3.0 Million settlement for a woman who suffered a traumatic amputation of a leg when struck by a truck while crossing the street.
  • A $1.4 Million judgment entered for the widow of a police officer who was killed in the line of duty while assisting in a traffic accident.
  • $5.5 Million product liability settlement resulting from a defective portable electric space heater that resulted in the death of a 14 year old, severe injuries to a 36 year old woman and severe burn injuries to an 18 year old young man.
  • A settlement with total payments in excess of $11 Million in a medical malpractice case against a health maintenance organization and hospital for failure to perform a pregnancy test on a patient before admitting her for heart surgery. The patient suffered a stroke and is severely disabled.
  • A $3.65 Million settlement in a medical malpractice case against an HMO and individual physicians for failing to diagnose a brain tumor in a ten-year old boy. The settlement includes periodic payments which are expected to exceed $10,000,000 over the plaintiff's lifetime.
  • A settlement totaling in excess of $2.9 Million for two construction workers who were burned in a fire in Virginia caused by the negligence of the general contractor.
  • A $2.1 Million settlement on behalf of a 16 year old child who sustained traumatic brain injuries as a result of an automobile collision. The injured party was a high school student in Virginia at the time of his injuries.
  • A $7.3 Million legal malpractice verdict for a young woman who was paralyzed in an automobile accident and who filed suit against her original lawyer who had failed to protect her rights. Mr. Regan tried this case in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, and the $7.3 Million verdict was one of the largest legal malpractice verdicts in District of Columbia history.
  • A settlement totaling in excess of $15.2 Million for the death of a 35 year old carpenter who was crushed by a dump truck that had a defective back-up alarm. This settlement includes payments over the lifetimes of the widow and children of the victim.
  • A $2.3 Million product liability settlement for a 16 year old boy who sustained serious injuries in a crash while riding in the rear seat of an automobile that had defectively designed seatbelts.
  • A $1 Million settlement in a construction accident case where a worker fell through a hidden hole in the roof.
  • A $975,000.00 settlement in a product liability case resulting from a defectively designed bunk bed which caused the death of an infant.
  • A verdict of nearly $4.2 Million for a patron of a DC nightclub who was attacked and severely beaten as he exited the nightclub.  Testimony at trial indicated that the nightclub refused to provide security guards for patrons exiting the nightclub, even though the nightclub knew of numerous assaults on patrons and others that took place immediately outside the doors of the nightclub.
  • A settlement of $4.2 Million for a child who suffered severe brain injuries at the time of his birth due to the negligence of a Maryland hospital and the physicians who practiced at the hospital.  The settlement included periodic payments which are expected to provide over $10 Million in benefits to the child over his lifetime.
  • A settlement of $2.45 Million in a Maryland malpractice action for severe injuries suffered by a 69 year old patient during routine heart surgery.
  • A $1,350,000 settlement for a woman who suffered severe injuries as a result of the medical malpractice of a Virginia Hospital and doctor during childbirth.  The settlement included a waiver of medical expenses which resulted in the value of the total settlement exceeding $2.0 Million.
