Traumatic Brain Injury Lawyers in Washington DC

Regan Zambri Long, PLLC understands the devastating impact that a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) has on a person and his loved ones. A TBI is a complex injury with a broad spectrum of symptoms and disabilities. Our knowledge of the seriousness of these injuries is due to the fact that we have represented hundreds of clients who have suffered a TBI. A person can suffer a TBI in many ways, including due to a bus collision, automobile accident, medical negligence, as well as other forms of negligence.

The leading causes of TBI are:

  • Vehicle accidents
  • Falls
  • Medical negligence
  • Sports injuries

Our firm has recently obtained several important rulings in this area of law, including a $5 million jury verdict and a DC Court of Appeals' decision allowing for a full recovery for a client who unfortunately was unable to continue his career as a lawyer due to a TBI. In the United States, TBI is the leading cause of death for persons under age 45. TBI occurs every 15 seconds. Approximately 5 million Americans currently suffer from some form of TBI disability.

How Traumatic Brain Injuries Occur

Traumatic brain injuries are normally caused by either direct or indirect trauma. A direct trauma injury occurs when a force penetrates or fractures the skull causing severe brain injury. Displaced fractures of the skull can also push bone into the brain, causing tissue damage. An example of an indirect trauma is when a person suffers from lack of oxygen due to medical negligence. This is considered a hypoxic event. The brain is more susceptible to injury due to lack of oxygen (hypoxia) than any other part of the body. Hypoxia can occur in conjunction with other injuries (heart attack) or from any other situation where breathing or oxygen intake is impaired.
