According to local news sources, an early morning apartment building explosion and fire has left almost 100 people homeless, 30 people injured, and between five and seven people missing in Silver Spring, Maryland. Debris from the explosion is spread over a wide area, and has damaged other buildings across the street. Roads in the area are expected to be closed until the area is deemed safe.

Investigations at this point are focusing on locating the missing victims as well as interviewing residents to determine what happened before and after the fire. Although the buildings are equipped with natural gas furnaces and appliances, there have not yet been any reports of possible gas leaks.

Injured residents and firefighters were transferred to local hospitals while displaced residents are being sheltered at the Long Branch Community Center. Red Cross staff is logging in contact information to assist those trying to locate people from the apartment complex.

Burn injuries are considered some of the most traumatic personal injuries a person can suffer. At least a million people in the United States are injured from burns each year. The complex legal and highly scientific issues in burn injury litigation require an experienced Washington, DC personal injury attorney to help injured victims.
