September is Child Passenger Safety Month — a month when children begin commuting to school each day and spending more time on the road.  Designating the month as a time to focus on child safety is one aspect of a national effort by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) to save lives by preventing injuries to children.  This national campaign, called "Boost to Safety," focuses on the importance of child safety seats.

According to the NHTSA, more than 40,000 child passengers under age four are injured or killed in car crashes every year.  About 40% of children under the age of eight who are injured or killed in accidents annually are not restrained in safety seats.  Unfortunately, many restrained children are also injured each year because their safety seats are improperly installed.  Throughout September, thousands of new car dealers all around the U.S. will offer free child safety seat inspections.  Make a free appointment with one of these official inspection locations to ensure you’ve installed your child’s safety seat correctly.
